About CompactLogix

The CompactLogix controller series has been created by Allen-Bradley and it consists of different kinds of controllers that have different characteristics but that serve the same purpose. The main difference between these controllers is their size and some power and voltage settings. Some of the different subseries included in the bigger CompactLogix series are the 5380, 5480, 5270, 5580, and the 5570 series. The controllers also work with Compact GuardLogix series controllers. The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controllers come with different ports and communication modules. To install one of these controllers, the first step is to choose a compatible controller according to size, memory, and other characteristics. Then a network must be selected along with the compatible drive or motor. Finally, I/O and additional cables and accessories can be added to the controller system.

The difference between the standard CompactLogix controllers and the Compact GuardLogix controllers is that these controllers can perform safety functions as well. The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix series controllers can be used with different accessories such as the 1733 ArmorBlock module and the 1738 ArmorPoint I/O module. This can be connected via the Ethernet/IP network and it provides benefits such as an IP 67 rated enclosure, an additional SD card slot, Dual Ethernet ports, and a USB port, among others. The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix series controllers can be configured to perform data transfers between different devices. This is achieved exclusively via the Ethernet/IP communication option included in each controller in the series. The controllers have a communication rate of approximately 10 to 100 Megabytes per second, and some that come with a rate of 1 gigabyte per second.
