The Micro830 PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) made by Allen-Bradley have been designed for use in the world of industrial automation to meet a growing need for single controller systems to control on/off devices, stepper motors, and machine axis movements, and to be available at an affordable price and in small dimensions. The Micro830 PLCs can be delivered as 10-point (2 plug-in slots), 16-point (2 plug-in slots), 24-point (3 plug-in slots), or as 48-point (5 plug-in slots) models. Although the Micro830 PLCs are intended for smaller applications with 5 plug-in slots, these controllers can control up to 88 I/O points. Plug-in modules compatible with the Micro830 controllers have an order code starting with the number “2080” and they can be digital I/Os, multi-channel analog inputs or outputs, RS232/485 ports, multi-channel RTD, multi-channel thermocouple, DeviceNet scanner, and backup memory modules.
The Allen-Bradley Micro830 PLCs use the Connected Components Workbench software that is also used to configure PanelView control panels and PowerFlex drives. Device programming is done via a standard USB port, and the controller also has one serial RS-232/RS-485 non-isolated port. The number of programming steps supported by these PLC models are 4K steps for smaller models and 10K steps for larger models. With an additional plug-in module, these devices can support operations that are important to developers and maintenance personnel, and these include datalog, PLC program transfer, and recipe manipulation operations. This is all made possible by storing data on a microSD card. These devices are capable of operating in a wide temperature range of -20 to 65 degrees Celsius and they are certified with the following standards: c-UL-us, CL1DIV2, CE, C-Tick, and KC.
