The Allen-Bradley SLC 100 series is a series of Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers that are designed to provide ease of use. The SLC 100 series comprises 12 individual entries that use the common ladder diagram format. The SLC 100 series provides various functional capabilities including relay logic, timers, sequencers, counters, and shift registers. The controllers are usable in different applications including machine tools, material handling, molding, casting, and assembly applications. The SLC 100 series controllers feature a CPU and a CMOS RAM that is battery-backed. The controllers also come with a power supply with 161/0 circuits. The controllers’ processor units are availed in 4 versions that help them to meet the requirements of different applications.
When installing the Allen-Bradley SLC 100 controllers, make sure to read the installation manual first. The enclosure should provide adequate protection and meet various environmental conditions to ensure optimal performance. There needs to be a universal power supply serving the processor unit, the expansion units, and the I/O device circuits. The processor and the expansion units require proper grounding to provide all the required functions. The SLC 100 controllers support mounting directly to the back panel of the enclosure. Alternatively, the SLC 100 modules could be mounted in the user’s enclosure on the 35 millimeters by 7.5 millimeters DIN mounting rail. Check to ensure proper wiring. Note that incorrect wire connections can result in damaged processor unit power supplies. The SLC 100 controller’s input circuitry is rated as current-sinking circuitry, and it is compatible with the current sourcing input devices.
