About SMC-50

The SMC-50 series is an Allen-Bradley series of solid-state smart motor controllers. The controllers in this series are designed to provide a microchip-controlled, solid-state startup for the Wye-Delta (6-lead) or standard 3-phase squirrel cage induction motors. They feature a voltage range of 200 to 690 Volts AC, a current rating of 90 to 520 Amps, and 9 standard starting modes. These smart motor controllers have 3 expansion ports for installing optional modules, integral electronic motor overload protection, and an entirely solid-state, continuous SCR control feature. Other features of the 150 SMC-50 smart motor controllers include the energy saver mode, DPI communication protocol, parameter configuration options, external bypass, voltage and current sensing on every phase, logging of the 100 events prior to the current one with timestamps, metering, conformally-coated PCBs, and optional network communication functions. These controllers come with many advanced features for motor/starter and power monitoring protection in order to increase reliability.

The Allen-Bradley SMC-50 series offers motor and starter alarms as well as fault alarms. The alarms occur when there is a potential problem with the system, or when a fault is about to occur, thus allowing the users sufficient time to take corrective measures. The fault trips prevent damage to the equipment by shutting down the particular equipment that will be affected by the fault or by cutting out the power entirely. The SMC-50 series offers the users the ability to independently enable and disable faults and the motor and starter alarms by switching them on or off. Typically, the alarm and fault trip points are user-configurable, allowing for application reliance. Additionally, many alarms and faults provide distinct user-configurable parameters for alarm and fault time delays to help reduce shutdowns as well as nuisance trips.
