About Flex I/O 1797

The Allen-Bradley Flex I/O 1797 system is a distributed I/O system that interfaces with the ControlNet networks. The Flex I/O 1797 series is an economical and modular I/O series for distributed applications which offers all the functionality of rack-based I/O but requires less space than other series. The Flex I/O 1797 system is specifically designed for hazardous areas and it eliminates the need for intrinsic safety isolators and barriers or lengthy wires connected to the control cabinet. The Flex I/O 1797 modules are rated for installation in Class I Division 1 and 2, Groups A to D rated hazardous areas, North American Class I Zone 1 and 2, Groups IIC, IIB, and IIA hazardous areas, and European Zones 22, 2, and 1 hazardous areas. Installing a complete Flex I/O 1797 system consists of the following steps: selecting a communication adapter and distribution method, selecting the I/O devices from digital I/O, analog I/O, HART, temperature, frequency and counter modules, selecting the terminal base, selecting the power supply, and selecting the accessories.

One Flex I/O 1797 network adapter module can communicate with 8 other modules, allowing for connectivity with 128 digital I/O, 64 analog inputs, or a mix of I/O according to the application requirements. Modules can be inserted and removed when the system power is on. Cable connections and network module maintenance can also be performed while the system power is on. A redundant ControlNet interface provides communication with a maximum of 8 I/O modules. Flex Ex power supplies can be used to provide power to Flex I/O 1797 series modules. All Flex I/O 1797 series modules come with conformal coatings and they comply with the ISAS71.04-1995 standard which pertains to severity level G3 for chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, hydrogen fluoride, and ozone. A FlexBus isolator allows Flex I/O 1797 series modules to be used with standard Flex I/O adapters.
