About 160 SSC Variable Speed Drives

The 160 SSC variable speed drive series by Allen-Bradley is a series of compact, high-performance variable speed drives designed for the accurate and precise speed control of 3-phase induction AC motors. The 160 SSC variable speed drive series provides enhanced microprocessor control and programmable drive setup/configuration for precise, accurate, and repeated drive operation. The drives come in 0.37 to 4 kilowatts, 200 to 240 Volts AC, and 368 to 460 Volts AC 3-phase ratings, and 0.37 to 1.5 kilowatts and 200 to 240 Volts AC single-phase ratings. All 160 SSC variable speed drives come with built-in ground-fault and transient protection (series C at up to 6 KiloVolts), and they offer software programmable over-current trip settings with adjustable trip values. They have built-in temperature sensors that trip when the drive’s temperature exceeds the maximum value, and the later series drives (Series C) come with automatic fault-clearing capabilities that automatically clear over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-temperature faults when the fault conditions are removed.

The 160 SSC variable speed drives offer sine-coded pulse-width modulation control and programmable Volts per Hertz control. The 160 SSC variable speed drives are available in overcurrent signal follower and preset speed models. They can be fully operated without program keypad modules via the control terminal block (TB3), and they can also perform diagnostic functions by using 2 front panel light indicators. The 160 SSC variable speed drives come with standard ready/fault indication panels, and drives with options like program keypad modules, remote keypad modules, copycat keypad modules, or remote programming adapters can be ordered to meet specific application needs. The 160 SSC variable speed drives are configured by using the Windows-based DriveExplorer Software, and they are available with the Devicenet, RS232 Serial Communications (Series C only), PROFIBUS, and INTERBUS communication options. The 160 SSC variable speed drive family supports the IP 20 (open-style) rated chassis mount, and the IP 65/NEMA 4X rated mounting configuration, and they are available with NEMA 4, 4X, and 12 ratings.
