ControlLogix Power Supplies
Allen Bradley offers ControlLogix power supplies for the ControlLogix control systems with 1756 chassis. Collectively these power supplies are identified as ‘1756 ControlLogix power supplies.’ There are five types of power supplies, including ControlLogix standard AC, ControlLogix standard DC, ControlLogix-XT, ControlLogix redundant, and ControlLogix-XT redundant. These power supplies can provide DC power directly to the chassis backplane in the range of 1.2V, 3.3V, 5V, and 24V. This guide provides in-depth technical knowledge for the selection of ControlLogix power supplies.
1. 1756 ControlLogix Standard AC Power Supplies
There are six models of standard AC power supplies. Comparing the size, some of the models are wider than others. The slim variants of standard AC power supplies are low-capacity models, which include PA50 and PA50K. The large-size models are higher in capacity and include PA72/C, PA72K/C, PA75/B, and PA75K/B.

Input Voltage and Frequency: The input voltage for the standard AC power supplies ranges from 85 to 265V AC, and the nominal input voltage is 120V/240V AC. The input frequency of AC power supplies can vary between 47 Hz and 63 Hz.
Input Power: The maximum input power for the PA50 models is 81W/91VA @ 50°C and 68W/77VA @ 60°C, whereas for PA72 and PA75 models, the maximum input power is 100VA/100W.
Output Power: PA50 models can deliver maximum output power from 50W to 60W based on temperature variation. In contrast, the models PA72 and PA75 can output a power of 75W.
Inrush Current: The inrush current value for all models of standard AC power supplies is 20A.
Hold Up Time: The holdup time is an important performance measure of the control system power supplies. It is the time in cycles for which the power supply holds the DC output when the input voltage is removed. This time varies from one model to another. The holdup time for PA50 models is up to 5 cycles against 85-265V AC. The holdup time for PA72 models of power supplies is up to 6 cycles at 240V AC. For the PA75 models, the maximum holdup time for a power supply is 20 cycles at 220V AC.
Current Capacity:The current capacity of standard AC power supplies varies at different values of DC voltages.
- The current capacity at 1.2V DC is 1.5A which is the same for all standard AC power supply models.
- The current capacity of power supplies at 3.3V DC is 2A for PA50 models and 4A for PA72 and PA75 models.

2.1 Technical Specifications
Input Voltage: The input voltage for standard DC power supplies is different for different models. The PB50, PB72, and PB75 variants have an input voltage range of 18 to 32V DC with a nominal value of 24V DC. The PC75/B has an input voltage range of 30 to 60V DC with a nominal value of 48V DC, and the PH75/B has an input voltage range of 90 to 143V DC with a nominal value of 125V DC.
Input Power: The maximum input power for all standard DC power supplies is 95W, except the PB50 models, which have an input power of 85W @ 50°C, and 70W @ 60°C.
Output Power: The maximum output power for all standard DC power supplies is 75W under 60°C, except the PB50 models, which have an output power of 60W under 50°C, and 50W under 60°C.
Inrush Current: The inrush current value for all models of standard DC power supplies is 30A.
Hold Up Time: The holdup time for DC power supplies is measured in milliseconds. This time varies from one model to another. The maximum holdup time for PB50 models is 40ms at 50W output power. The maximum holdup time for PB72 and PB75 models is 40ms at 32V DC. For PC75/B and PH75/B, the holdup time is 50ms.
Current Capacity: The current capacity of standard DC power supplies varies for different values of DC voltages.

The ControlLogix-XT power supplies can operate under extreme temperatures. The operating temperature range for these power supplies is from -25°C to 70°C, unlike the standard power supplies, which can operate in a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C. Four models of ControlLogix-XT power supplies, including two AC and two DC, are available. The ControlLogix-XT power supplies AC models include PAXT and PA30XT, and DC models include PBXT and PB30XT.
3.1 Technical Specifications
Input Voltage: The input voltage range for PAXT and PA30XT power supplies can range from 85 to 265V AC with nominal values of 120/240V AC. The input frequency for these AC power supplies ranges from 47 Hz to 63 Hz. 4. 1756 ControlLogix Redundant Power Supplies
The ControlLogix power supplies also include redundant power supplies that offer additional features other than the ones available in the standard power supplies. First, they support redundant operations. Second, they can automatically share the load between redundant power supplies through chassis. Third, they can figure out the operational anomalies with the power supplies. Fourth, they also have status indicators for operation and a built-in system recognition feature when connected to an input module. The redundant power supplies are installed in a pair for single chassis. There are four redundant power supplies, including two AC and two DC models, PA75R, PA75RK, PB75R, and PB75RK.
4.1 Technical Specifications
Input Voltage
The input voltage range for PA75R and PA75RK is 85 to 265V AC with a nominal input voltage of 120V/240V AC at 50/60Hz, whereas the input voltage range for PB75R and PB75RK is 18 to 32V DC with a nominal input voltage of 24 DC.
Input Power: The maximum input power for PA75R and PA75RK models is 120VA 115W. The maximum input power for PB75R and PB75RK models is 110W.
Output Power: All ControlLogix redundant power supply models can output a maximum power of 75W when operating between 0°C to 60°C.
Inrush Current: The inrush current value for redundant AC power supplies is 20A, whereas the inrush current value for DC power supply models is 30A.
Hold Up Time: The holdup time for redundant AC power supplies is 2 cycles at 50Hz or 60Hz. In contrast, the holdup time is 20ms for the redundant DC power supplies.
Current Capacity: The current capacity of ControlLogix redundant AC and DC power supplies is the same at different values of DC voltages. At 1.2V, all ControlLogix redundant power supplies have a current capacity of 1.5A. At 3.3V, the power supplies have a current capacity of 4A. At 5.1V, the current capacity is 13A, and at 24V, it is 2.8A.
Annunciator Power: The annunciator power is specific to the redundant power supplies. The annunciator power rating for PA75R and PA75RK models is 240V AC at 50/60Hz and 240V DC at 50mA. Similarly, the annunciator power rating for PB75R and PB75RK models is 90V DC.

5. 1756 ControlLogix-XT Redundant Power Supplies
The ControlLogix-XT redundant power supplies are redundant power supplies that can operate under extreme temperatures, like ControlLogix-XT power supplies. There are two models of the ControlLogix-XT redundant power supplies. These are similar in most of the attributes to the ControlLogix redundant power supplies. The models include PAXTR, an AC version, and PBXTR, a DC version. The differences and unique features of these power supplies are discussed next.
5.1 Technical Specifications
- The PAXTR has a nominal input voltage of 120/240V AC, and PBXTR has 24V DC. The maximum input power for these models is 75VA 65W, and 81W, respectively.
- The PAXTR and PBXTR power supplies can output a maximum power of 42W and 52W, respectively.

6. Environmental Specifications of ControlLogix Power Supplies
There are various environmental specifications that define the performance of different models of ControlLogix power supplies. Multiple factors and the recommended ranges of different parameters are generally the same for all models.
Temperature: The non-operating or storage temperature for all ControlLogix power supplies ranges from -40°C to 85°C. The operating temperature for standard AC, standard DC, and redundant power supplies is 0°C to 60°C. In contrast, the operating temperature for ControlLogix-XT and ControlLogix-XT redundant power supplies ranges from -25°C to 70°C.
Vibration: All ControlLogix power supplies can bear a vibration of 2g at a frequency between 10 to 500 Hz.
Shock: The shock value for non-operating or stored power supplies is up to 50g, and the shock value is limited to 30g when the power supply is in the operating state.
Immunity: The power supplies have various built-in immunities and protection mechanisms, including ESD, radiated RF, EFT/B, surge transient, conducted RF, and voltage variation.
